Aurora Borealis Lights Up Seattle Sky

Celestial Show Delights Residents

July 13, 2023

Seattle residents were treated to a dazzling display of the Northern Lights on July 12 and 13, 2023. The aurora borealis, caused by charged particles from the sun interacting with Earth's atmosphere, lit up the night sky with vibrant hues of green, pink, and purple.

The celestial display was particularly visible due to an unusual amount of solar activity. Solar flares had released a surge of charged particles into space, creating the conditions necessary for the aurora to be seen over a wider area.

Residents across Seattle reported seeing the Northern Lights, including from the city center, Queen Anne Hill, and the Ballard neighborhood. The lights were visible for several hours, with the peak activity occurring around midnight. The display was so vivid that it was captured in numerous photographs and videos shared on social media.
