Discounts and exemptions planned for drivers in NYC congestion zone

Congestion pricing in NYC: Everything you need to know, including start date, exemptions, and a map

The new congestion pricing plan for Manhattan is getting closer to becoming a reality. The plan, which is designed to reduce traffic and improve air quality, will charge drivers a fee to enter the most congested parts of the borough during peak hours.

Certain drivers and vehicles will be exempt from the congestion pricing charges. Here is a list of the proposed exemptions:

  • Residents of the congestion zone who earn less than $60,000 per year
  • Drivers of commercial vehicles that weigh more than 10,000 pounds
  • Drivers of emergency vehicles
  • Drivers of vehicles with diplomatic plates
  • Drivers of vehicles that are registered to people with disabilities

In addition to these exemptions, there will also be a number of discounts available for drivers who use certain payment methods or who drive during off-peak hours.

Here are some key details about the congestion pricing plan:

  • The congestion pricing zone will be in effect from 6am to 6pm on weekdays.
  • The fee to enter the congestion zone will be $12 for most vehicles.
  • The congestion pricing plan is scheduled to start in 2023.
