Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Opens 2024 Season at Home Against SMU

The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine volleyball team will open its 2024 season at home against Southern Methodist University (SMU) this weekend.

The Rainbow Wahine will host the SMU Mustangs in a two-match series at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center on Friday, January 12, and Saturday, January 13.

The matches will be the first of the season for both teams. The Rainbow Wahine are coming off a 2023 season in which they finished with a 20-10 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Mustangs finished the 2023 season with a 16-14 record and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Rainbow Wahine are led by a trio of All-Big West Conference selections in senior middle blocker Skyler Williams, junior outside hitter Brooke Van Sickle, and sophomore setter Kate Lang.

The Mustangs are led by All-American Conference honorable mention outside hitter Morgan Heise.

The matches will be the first of the season for both teams after a long off-season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rainbow Wahine have not played a match since December 6, 2023, while the Mustangs have not played a match since December 5, 2023.
